Storm Damage Roofing Repair

Whenever a storm passes through, there’s always the risk of damage that can occur to different parts of the home. The roof is often the most susceptible to damage because it’s responsible for protecting the interior of the building and is exposed to the elements each season. There are a few common signs of storm damage to be aware of to ensure you know when it’s time to schedule repairs with a local roofer.

Missing Shingles

After a storm, you may notice a few shingles that are in your yard due to heavy wind and rain. When the roof loses a few shingles, it causes the roof deck to become exposed, which can cause leaks to develop. A roofer will need to use roofing cement to secure the shingles back to the roof and restore the quality of the structure.

You may also discover a lot of shingle granules that have accumulated in the rain gutters, which is a sign that the materials need to be replaced.

Leaks

Take a close look at the roof boards in your attic to check for any water stains that may have formed. This indicates that leaks are present, which can quickly lead to mildew and mold. Leaks can start to become more severe over time and can cause damage to furniture and personal belongings in the home.

Damaged or Lifted Flashing

The flashing that is present on the vents, skylights, and chimneys on the roof can also suffer from damage in the middle of a storm. A roofer can look for rust that is present and will also inspect the material to determine if it’s lifted. This can allow leaks to form and requires replacing the materials.

The roofer will also want to inspect the roof supports or accents to determine if any damage has developed after you’ve experienced extreme weather conditions.

By knowing what to look for if you suspect your roof has storm damage, it can allow you to know when it’s time to contact a roofing professional. This will allow you to quickly get the repairs you need and restore the condition of the structure.
